Scope of Practice

For over 20 years I have worked with individuals, couples, and families who need help making changes, establishing new skills, discovering solutions, and seeking personal growth. I am skilled in treating a wide range of issues including anxiety, trauma, depression, learning issues, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, coping with physical illnesses, addiction, and cultural adjustment. I also specialize in working with individuals with learning disabilities, as well as working with family members affected by a child diagnosed with developmental disabilities, helping families lower stress, cultivate resilience and confidence, and establish more successful ways of being together.

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

In my work I utilize a combination of different therapeutic approaches, including object-relations, gestalt, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, motivational interviewing and psycho-education.  When working with couples, I often use the Gottman approach, which I find to be a very effective modality to help with working through relationship concerns and in helping partners to reconnect with each other.

Values and Philosophy

I can work with you to help decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression, move through loss and grief, process and resolve issues of trauma and abuse, adjust to life changes, and improve your relationships. Your willingness and readiness to make change is the strongest indicator of a successful outcome, and the time frame and process for that success can be tailored to address your particular concerns and goals. Internal and external resources will be identified to help cultivate the confidence to make desired choices, improve interpersonal skills, and strengthen support systems. Throughout the process, periods of emotional pain and despair will be explored in a safe, collaborative relationship, providing significant opportunities for healing and growth.
