Julene is a general practitioner, engaging with people who have experienced both little “t” and big “T” trauma situations, including relational difficulties, single instance trauma, and complex PTSD. She is trained in relational psychotherapy, as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), other trauma-sensitive therapies, and domestic violence counseling. In addition, she thoughtfully uses material from therapies such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy, as her clients have need.
Education and Clinical Experience:
Julene holds a Masters degree in counseling psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology (2014), and is licensed with the state of Washington as a mental health counselor associate (LMHCA). She also received three years training in counseling through a local lay counseling program, Small Beginnings (2003). She holds a doctorate in Speech Communication, focusing on intercultural communication and conflict, from the University of Washington (1998), and received her first masters and undergraduate degree in these same interests from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana (1991). Her research and training interests are in trauma, dissociation, intercultural interactions, and small group facilitation.
Julene loves being outdoors! But when indoors, she enjoys painting watercolors, baking, and being with her family. Her relationship with Christ is pivotal to her existence, but she is respectful of others’ belief backgrounds. She is also a person of color (mixed Native and White), a joyful mother of two children entering their teens, an identical twin, and a wife of more than two decades with a good man.
